Sell Mineral Rights in Klein, MT

Klein was a company coal camp before it was anything else, and the mineral history under it reads that way.

Klein was built as a coal camp for the mines working the Bull Mountains seam, and it's stayed a small unincorporated place just north of Roundup ever since the mines wound down. What's interesting from a title standpoint is that the coal rights and any oil and gas rights under the same ground were frequently severed separately, sometimes decades apart, which means a family that thinks it owns "the minerals" under a Klein-area parcel may actually hold only one strand of a split interest.

We've pulled enough of these old Klein deeds to know the record can run four or five conveyances deep before you reach the original patent. That's normal for a coal-camp town this old, and it's exactly the kind of work we do before we ever quote a family a number.

Coal camp history and split severances

When the coal companies were active, mineral deeds around Klein often reserved coal rights to one party while surface and other minerals passed along a different chain. Later CBM leasing in the 2000s added another layer on top of that. We don't assume a Klein interest is a clean single-owner package — we check whether it's oil and gas only, coal only, or both, because that changes who we're even able to buy from you.

What activity looks like today

CBM leasing touched most of the ground around Klein at some point, and a fair amount of it has since lapsed without a well ever being drilled. If your family's interest was leased fifteen or twenty years ago and the payments stopped, there's a real chance the lease expired and the minerals are unleased today, which changes what we can offer.
